Outdoor Living Spaces

One of the perks of living in North Dallas / Fort Worth Texas is the beautiful weather. Thanks to mild winters and calm summers, we can spend more time outdoors than people in other parts of the country might be able to. This means, of course, that our outdoor space becomes fairly important to us precisely because we can spend so much time enjoying it. We often want to create the very best outdoor living spaces possible in order to best enjoy the sunny days and clear nights. At Prater Concrete, we’ve been helping customers design the outdoor spaces of their dreams for over two decades.

Can I use concrete in my outdoor living space?

When you think of concrete, your attention might immediately turn to parking lots or sidewalks. You might have the preconceived notion that all concrete is utilitarian in nature and is only suited for one or two purposes. This may cause you to turn your focus to other materials when it comes to the construction and enhancement of your property. This would be a mistake, however, because concrete can be used in a wide variety of ways to help create the perfect outdoor living space for your needs. In fact, concrete can be used in all of the following:

  • Fountains
  • Pools
  • Patio Covers
  • Pool Decks
  • Outdoor Steps
  • Outdoor Foundations
  • Outdoor Fireplaces
  • Outdoor Kitchens
  • Outdoor Bars

As you can see, concrete can be used to quickly and affordably spice up your backyard – and the above isn’t even a complete list of all the possibilities!

Can I customize concrete?

Being able to use concrete to create durable outdoor living spaces is one thing but creating a design that you love is quite another. Luckily, concrete can be customized with many different finishes to help create the appearance and pattern that perfectly suit your needs. At Prater Concrete, we offer our clients six custom finishes on our concrete installations:

  • Acid Stain. Acid can be infused with your concrete to create dramatic patterns and even mimic things like marble or natural wood.
  • Broom Finish. This is a simple, no fuss finish that is easily created by moving a broom over unhardened concrete.
  • Exposed Aggregate. Concrete contains many different natural stone aggregates. This finish exposes them by removing the top layer of concrete.
  • Float and Trowel. This classic finish is often eye-catching with swirls and arcs that are made in wet concrete and dry to a sturdy, non-slip finish.
  • Salt Finish. Embedding salt crystals in wet cement and dissolving them with a pressure wash after the cement has hardened will yield this interesting and aesthetically pleasing design.
  • Stamped Concrete. Stamped concrete offers the very best in concrete customization, allowing you to pair different colors, designs, and patterns.
